Background
We were appointed by Oldham Borough Council via Extraspace to design an Eight classroom extension to the school in late 2018. BPA were also appointed direct with the School as Principal Designers to advise on Health and Safety under the CDM REgulations. A separate member of staff was utilised for this role to satisfy Client reporting responsibilities.

The new classrooms were needed as soon as possible to cater for overscubscribed pupil numbers in most of the exisitng classrooms. In order to facilitate speedy delivery it was agreed that existing modules returned from a school hire would be used, stripped back to frame and floor, and then reclad and new partitions and fixtures fitted out on site. Foundations were installed for the new modules as soon as the planning applicaiton was submitted, which allowed the modules to be delivered to site over the school half term which reduced the disturbance to the school, and access to the front. Fit out then proceeded with minimal disruption to the school. .

Ethos
An existing MUGA between Hollinwood and Newbridge School was relocated and increased in size, which left space for the new classrooms. The new classrooms were designed with white render finish to match the apperance and fenestration of the existing classrooms, with the two classrooms at ground floor to the rear having direct access to external teaching space at the rear, in a similar format to the existing school. .

Facilities
Four classrooms per floor were accomodating, designed to accomodate ten pupils per classroom, with 4 separate toilets per floor and a respurce store.

Means of escape was negotiated with Building Control and it was agreed that because of the high level of pupil to staff ratio Means of Escape could be taken back into the existing circulation route and a new set of double doors introduced below an existing staircase direct to atmosphere.
